Child will vocalize words on a daily basis, understand about 50 words you say, and put objects in and out of containers. See 12-Month Checklist. |

18 months |
Growing toddler will begin to combine more sounds into two-word phrases, point to body parts, and make animal sounds. See 18-Month Checklist. |

24 months |
Dramatic expansion in vocabulary skills occurs, speech is understood 75% of the time, and one-step directions are understood and completed with success. See 24-Month Checklist. |

30 months |
Child’s brain activity and communication skills expand dramatically, they play cooperatively with peers, and use 2- to 3-word sentences. See 30-Month Checklist. |

3 years |
Toddler takes turns in conversations on one topic for 2-3 minutes and understands two-step directions. See 3-Year Checklist. |

4 years |
Child has developed a great imagination, is focused on him or herself in conversations, uses 4- to 7-word sentences easily, and rarely repeats words or stutters. See 4-Year Checklist. |

Child understands humor, speech is clearly understood by others 90% of the time, and he or she answers questions about a story’s plot and main idea. See 5-Year Checklist. |
